There's nothing more magical than seeing an animal in it's own environment. I have to admit that most times I leave aquariums and zoos a little depressed, wanting to advocate for an upgrade in housing arrangements. Our visit to the Clearwater Aquarium was different, this time I left in awe of two very magnificent dolphins who have shaped the way current prosthetics are made. Children (and adults like myself) come from all over to witness Winter work through her physical therapy sessions and swim around with her prosthetic tail.
Dr. Cox and I of course watched both Winter's tale and the sequel before visiting (we love children's movies)! So we were pretty pumped when we had the chance to hold the tail and feel the material designed specifically for a dolphin's highly sensitive skin.
From a tragic story of a dolphin caught in a net, came an inspirational one that continues to motivate and inspire around the world. I'm not here to sell movies, but if I could convince the "Doc," I'd have him give Winter's DVD to every child that comes in with a traumatic injury.
